Freedom of Expression and Human Rights

Sermon by Ted Wood, online only. Amnesty International

To be free, to express ourselves freely is a key human right and a key to living a life that expresses who we are and allows us the creativity to learn and grow and act according to our values and our deepest beliefs. It allows us to find meaning in our lives and to find our voice to participate fully in this creation of which we are a part. Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that we have the right to freedom of expression and the right to spread information. Everyone has the right to their own opinions, and to be able to express them freely. We should have the right to share our ideas with who we want, and in whichever way we choose. I will explore the right to freedom of expression within the context of Amnesty International’s Write for Rights campaign.
