First’s members and friends are called to action by Unitarian Universalist principles upholding the inherent worth and dignity of every person through justice, equity, and compassion.  We get involved individually and in groups, at local, national, and international levels.   Our history of engagement in justice work includes advancing the causes of women’s rights, mental health, penal reform, civil and human rights, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered equality, abolition of the death penalty, peace and disarmament, environmental protection, and refugee support.

First welcomes friends and members of the LGBTQ2 community and respects all sexual and gender identifications.  We participate in the CUC Welcoming Congregation program and our Religious Education offerings include the highly respected Our Whole Lives Lifespan Sexuality Education program.

Our congregants are active in their communities as individuals and are welcome to bring their social justice interests into conversation at First to determine if there are like minded people interested in forming a group to take action. If you wish to bring a social action item to the attention of the congregation, please contact someone on the Executive Committee. Currently, First has groups working together in these areas:
