UU United Nations Office

The Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office (UU-UNO) carries on our “world work” from the centre of our global village, in the Church Center for the United Nations, across from the main UN building in New York City. The UU-UNO was established more than fifty years ago at the instigation of a famous Unitarian, Adlai Stevenson. It represents our faith-in-action-on the world stage!

Our work with this mission is based on our UU Principles, particularly the sixth principle which expresses our commitment to “the goal of world community, with peace, liberty and justice for all”. As it represents us, it also depends upon us to carry out its mandate and support it financially.

Every year, normally in late October, the congregation holds a “UN Sunday”, which raises awareness and funds, for this part of our UU mandate.

Some members of the congregation also attend the UU-UNO Seminar in New York City in early to mid-April each year. It expands our knowledge and understanding of world affairs, and enables us to play our part to ensure a livable future for our own and all the world’s children.

We solicit wide participation and commitment to this mission. We are working toward sending some youth from the congregation to New York to join in the great seminar experience. These events are inspiring, informative, and are truly intergenerational.

As Unitarian Universalist we believe participation in UU-UNO is one of the best things we can do for the future of our children and all children. More precious than “fine gold” is the legacy we should leave them of a World in one peace and one piece. It is our privilege to do our part in this mission through the UU-UNO.

We urge anyone interested to become members of the UU-UNO and to include the UU-UNO in their will.
