When ‘there is no there there’

Sermon by Rev. Shawn Newton.

Scottish Sunset The Welsh have a wonderful word that speaks to the longing for a place to which you cannot return. The word “hiraeth” speaks to a sense of homesickness for a home that maybe never actually existed. It’s a feeling of nostalgia, or yearning, or even grief for places that are lost to us. As we close our focus on the theme of Home for the month of October, our service on Sunday will invite us to consider how hiraeth figures into our lives, especially at this moment in history—especially at this moment in our personal history—as so much is changing.

The Annual General Meeting of our congregation will begin at 12:30 pm. We have very exciting news to share about our journey to find a new home for First Unitarian, so I hope you’ll join us for this important meeting.

In faith and love,
Shawn
