The darkness of December; the season of Advent; the winter solstice; the miracle stories of Christmas… together these enliven the sense of Wonder. Wonder is a feeling, an action, and also a noun. Awe is the next step deeper; it inspires a sense of reverence for what we find wonder-full. Underlying, within and beyond them is Mystery: the deepest questions, the most subtle answers, and the gap between Question and Answer. A beautiful aspect of these is that it doesn’t matter whether one is drawn towards science or faith, Wonder, Awe and Mystery lie in every direction.
