Honest to God

Sermon by Rev. Shawn Newton.

Human shadow silhouetted against the Milky Way In affirming our Covenant each Sunday morning, we announce our intention “to serve life to the end that all souls shall grow into harmony with the divine.” It’s not uncommon for people to question what that really means, especially the last bit about the divine. This coming Sunday, as we explore this month’s theme of “Truths & Lies,” our service will invite us all to reflect on what we, as Unitarian Universalists, mean when we speak of the divine, by whatever name we may use (or not) to describe it. Danny Fong will share his rendition of James Taylor’s “Shower the People,” and I’ll share in a conversation with Linda Curley from the Birchmount Bluffs Community Centre about their organisation’s work in Scarborough.

In whatever ways you spend this long weekend, may you savour the emergence into what feels, in so many respects, like a new season!

In faith and love,
Shawn
