Sermon by Dallas Bergen.
There’s nothing better than a road-trip–loading your favourite playlist and hitting the road with the people you love. You prepare by having a loosely-held plan of potential sites, potential accommodations, and potential activities. You’re ready for everything–and committed to nothing…
Things don’t always go according to plan. Often life’s greatest pleasures, the memories that last a lifetime, come out of the unexpected. They come from living in the moment; to being one to the universe–flexible and open to that which we cannot control. At the same time, there is no denying that planning and preparation allow us to reach heights that cannot come from drifting through life. By identifying the goals and aspirations that we carry and planning their execution, we can move ourselves towards answering our life’s calling and bringing change to the world.
I am thankful for the opportunity to be in the pulpit this Sunday and am happy that our ministers–Senior Minister, Shawn Newton; Associate Minister, Lynn Harrison; and our Summer Minister, Ben Robbins–who shared wisdom and challenge to us in his first sermon with us last Sunday and will be back for several Sunday is the weeks ahead–can have some well-deserved rest and renewal.
Our service on Sunday will feature leadership from our Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Anglea Klassen, and Worship Leader, Maya Ferguson-Klinowski, and readings by Rev Andrée Mol, and Standford Dramaturge Patricia Ryan Madson.
Wishing you joy and abundant blessings in these summer days,
In love,
Dallas
