Hearts Ablaze: Fire Communion Service

Sermon by Shawn Newton.

Heart formed from swirling flames

This Sunday, on the first day of 2023, we gather to mark the turning of the year with our annual Fire Communion Service. In this beloved ritual, we’re invited to let go of what can be released and to invite in the promise of the dawning year.

For those taking part in this ritual at home, you may wish to have a candle and a tiny piece of paper close at hand for burning. You may also wish to have a source of water and a fire-extinguisher, if things inadvertently get out of hand!

To prepare for this ritual, between now and the service on Sunday, give thought to what you intend to leave behind in the year that is passing. And consider what it is that you wish to invite into your life in the new year.
