Sermon by Shawn Newton-Guthier.
Our service on Sunday will include a ritual through which we will release Rev. Shawn and ourselves from the covenant we established together soon after he arrived. The ritual echoes the one used at First when previous ministers have departed.
The service will also feature a lot of music, including new pieces written for the occasion by our own Danny Fong and Jewels Krauss. Tahirih Vejdani and the choir will sing Jason Robert Brown’s powerful “Music of Heaven,” and the choir will sing Z. Randall Stroop’s Omnia Sol. Kim Saltarski will share another new song at the luncheon, as well. Rev. Shawn’s hopes in his sermon to bring together everything he’s tried to say to us across the years in one final summation, along with the blessings and hopes he has for us as our paths diverge.
