Social Justice Showcase - February 26

E-mail Print PDF
Social Justice Showcase: February 26, 2012 at 11:30-1:00
Are you active with a social justice group outside of Toronto First? Are you active with one of First's social justice groups? Would you like to get involved in social justice either within or outside this congregation? Would you like to see how involved First members are in changing Toronto and the world for the better? Perhaps you would like to share this active congregation with your fellow activists.
The Social Justice Showcase will give congregants the opportunity to share information about their social justice activities. It will be set up much like the Activities Fair that took place in the fall. Each group will be allotted about 3 feet of table space to display information, and you may invite a key member of your group to help to spread its message. It will be very helpful when planning this event if you can register as soon as possible. Registration forms are available in the Narthex or on the table in the entryway. You may leave them in mailbox #4A (Elizabeth Guthrie) outside the office or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for the required information. Please register by Feb. 12 to ensure participation.

SAVE THE PLANET AND YOUR WALLET

The Green Team invites you to another “swap meet” on Sunday, Feb 5 during coffee hour.

This time we will be swapping small appliances, linens, and kitchen & household items in good repair.

Bring items you’d like to pass along to a new home and place them on the tables in Workman Hall before the service.

After the service, choose items for yourself or friends.

No money changes hands.

After coffee hour, if any of your donated items remain, please take them home or deliver them to a charity yourself, to ease clean-up.

Scruping on Social Services in Toronto - January 15

E-mail Print PDF
The Social Justice Committee is having a scrupling session on Sunday, January 15 in Sunderland Hall from 1:30 to 3:30 pm to address the issues of social service cuts in Toronto.

Four city councillors will be attending, along with Michael Shapcott, a community leader on poverty issues.

The councillors are: Joe Mihevic, Shelley Carroll, Mary-Margaret Mahon, and Janet Davis. There may be more, but these councillors have confirmed. We will focus on child poverty and housing.

Scrupling is a Quaker practice of listening and trying to find consensus on an equal basis. There are clear guidelines available that you will need to read in order to attend. No reporters will be present. If you are interested and haven't registered yet after a Sunday service, please contact Cathy Brown at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
