Attention teachers, students, parents and families!
Have you always wanted to volunteer in a developing country doing something to make the world a better place but been unable to get away during the school year?
This year why not try our July 7-21 Construction Expedition to help build a school in a mountain community in Honduras? Our trips are open to anyone over 18 — or between 14 and 18 if you bring a parent or guardian.
Central America Community Development: In Partnership with World Accord
Toronto First has sponsored development projects in Central America since 1997. In 1999 we formed a partnership with World Accord, to make these volunteer construction trips available to all Canadians.
To date over 400 people have had rewarding first-hand experience working with local people in the mountains of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador to build schools, training and community centers, and houses. At the same time we build understanding between people and help improve the social, economic and living conditions in these developing countries.
Central America Development Trips 2012 - The Trip of a Lifetime!

This year (2012) we are organizing three exciting projects in west-central Honduras working with the campesino (peasant) farmers of this region. The campesions have been working hard to improve life for themselves and their families. They have organized their communities, adopted improved nutrition and agricultural practices, implemented preventative health measures and learned to market their crops more profitably.
They recognize the important role of education in building better lives for their children and have requested our help to build schools and community centres.
We invite you to join us for one of these upcoming trips. It will be an experience you will long remember – one that will open your heart to a different way of looking at the world. The two-week trips are open to all people who would like to make a real difference in the world and in the lives of poor, but hard working people. Construction skills and Spanish are not required but are very welcome.
Highlights include:
- Living and working in community with team members and local volunteers
- An adventure that includes service to others
- Delicious indigenous food
- A weekend excursion to the ancient Mayan city of Copan
- An opportunity to learn and speak a little Spanish
