Community for a Lifetime

Founded in 1845, the First Unitarian Congregation of Toronto is a religious community serving each person’s spiritual journey.   We exist to help you find belonging, spiritual maturity and your own unique ministry.

Three programs undergird this lifelong process:

Mapmaking: Finding Your Path
Living By Heart: Walking Your Path
Lifecraft: The Path of Ministry

You are invited to join the congregation and participate in all three programs.   We are a supportive, friendly congregation, a place of lifelong growth and learning, of doing and being.   We are an alive, healthy, spiritually diverse, open and responsive community.

Will you join us on our quest?

Belonging

First Unitarian is a supportive community that welcomes you to Sunday worship and a variety of exciting programs and activities for the whole family.

Belonging begins with your participation.   Visit us on Sunday mornings.   Attend a dinner.   Join a discussion.   Reach out to others and get back ten-fold what you give.   When you are ready to become an official member, speak with a minister.   You will receive a personal “congregational connections” visit to help you feel at home.

After becoming a member, join “Mapmaking: Finding Your Path”, a five-month five-session evening program designed to help our newest members find their way and get the most out of belonging.

Spiritual Maturity

How to balance passion and perspective.   How to live with courage and conviction.   How to find inner harmony and wisdom.

First Unitarian is an alive, healthy, spiritually diverse, open and responsive community dedicated to supporting each person’s spiritual journey.   We provide pastoral care and offer a variety of small groups and classes to help you on your journey.

When you are ready to look seriously at your spiritual life, join our daylong discernment retreat, “Living By Heart: Walking Your Path.”   This spiritual retreat will give you the tools to make a personal commitment to the kind of life you yearn to live.   This retreat is not a once-only opportunity.   Members retake the program at least yearly.   Spiritual maturity is a lifelong quest and process.

Ministry Opportunities

We all yearn for a meaningful life, to express ourselves fully, to make a difference in the world.   First Unitarian supports its members in their quest for a life of purpose and significance.   Our members are “doers”, working individually and in groups of all sizes on a wide variety of projects both within the congregation and beyond its walls.   Members join a Ministerial Coaching Team that meets monthly to support their own leadership growth.   You are invited to get involved.

In addition, “Lifecraft: The Path of Ministry” is a day-long program designed to help you discern your unique ministry.   What is your passion?   What has your life story been saying?   Where are you being called to serve?   Join a "Lifecraft” session and find out.
