A Listserv is a collection (list) of names and email addresses sent to a server, which when told to do so emails a message to everyone on the list. There are several types of listservs: Read Only is a one way list, an appointed person can send a message to everyone on the list but the list members cannot post to it. An example is our "Announcements" list which is like our Telephone Tree, used to send messages of immediate importance to members of the Congregation. Read/Write is a two way list, anyone who joins can post messages to it which will be received by everyone else on it. Our "General" list is an example of this. Dedicated is a list only open to members of a specific group such as the Youth Group, the Board, the Women's Group, etc. These lists are almost always read/write. How do I get on a list? There are two ways: By invitation. You may get an email inviting you to become a member. This is most likely to happen with lists like the "Announcements" which is used only a limited amount. By joining You can look over the descriptions of lists and follow the link provided. Joining is quick and easy How do I get off a list? You simply go to the list address, which you will be given and delete your name. Can I modify my modify my subscriptions (email address?) Yes, visit the Yahoo! Groups web site to modify
your subscriptions: How do I start a new listserv? Listservs can be set up for groups or committees. Contact our Listserv Manager T'Hayla Ferguson for more information. |
