Toronto First has sponsored development
projects in Central America since 1997 building understanding
between people and improving the social, economic and living
conditions in the poorest areas. In 1999 we formed a partnership
with World Accord a Canadian
international development agency based in Waterloo, Ontario, to make
these volunteer construction trips available to all Canadians.
To date over 400 people have had rewarding firsthand experience
working with local people in the mountains of Honduras, Guatemala
and El Salvador to build schools, training and community centers,
and houses.

The campesino (peasant) farmers of
west-central Honduras of have been working hard to improve life
for themselves and their families. They have organized their
communities, adopted improved nutrition and agricultural
practices, implemented preventative health measures and learned to
market their crops more profitably. They recognize the
important role of education in building better lives for their
children and have requested our help to build these schools.
We invite you to join one
of the volunteer teams. It will be an experience you will
long remember. The two-week trips are open to all people who
would like to make a real difference in the world and in the lives
of poor, but hard working people. You don’t need
construction skills – they will be taught on site as needed.
More information on the
trips and how to apply is available at the
Construction Expedition web site.
